The one thing God is teaching me about trust is to take it one step at a time. If you have been following me for a while, you know I have these moments in my car where I vent to God about situations that are trying to frustrate me! Can you relate?

So, there I was again ranting, and I heard the holy spirit say this to me very clearly ‘What do you want?’ What is your request?  In this moment; what is it that you want me to do for you, daughter?  Immediately, I started to ‘pray’ what I wanted to see from that situation.  I switched from complaining to praying.

The Reminder – Venting Only Magnifies the Problem!

I realized that in my human capacity, my default setting to anything unpleasant or frustrating is to complain. In fact, a month ago in Bible study the teacher asked that question. What do you do first when problems come? I honestly answered that I complain first, I am not going to lie. I become a complete mess before God.

God is Always With You!

In all seriousness, if I understand and believe that God is always with me, my default would be the opposite. I mean yes this situation is frustrating but I am going to trust that there is a way out for me. There is a place of escape for me in Him. Let me say it differently – there is always a place of escape for you in Christ. Outside of him, there isn’t one.

This experience reminds me of the time I was writing my song ‘Yes’.  I came to a realization that there is nothing you want outside of Christ that can satisfy you. In other words, if it is outside of Christ, there is no satisfaction there.

There Is Always A Way of Escape

Last weekend, we celebrated a beautiful couple in Maryland – Nneomma and Dozie, and goodness me, going to that wedding was a big testimony for me be because it was a time of reconnecting on something very personal that I cannot share on this platform yet.

Many times, we think the answer that we are seeking God for is going to be very dramatic but can I just say sis/bro, it may not come that way? Sometimes, it is a simple ‘get out of town for a few days’ or stop and take a walk! In my experience with the lord, I have found that my way of escape has been in very simple instructions. Moreover, those instructions come from me taking certain actions that He leads me to take.

God Always Comes Through

To cut this long story short, from that experience on that day God came through with two big testimonies! And testimonies are still coming in! They came from the Holy Spirit telling me to ‘take a step back’. That allowed me to see the situation more objectively and to hear Him speak to me more clearly.

I titled this post ‘God’s not done with you yet’ because I get a sense there are people who are going to read this and go ‘I don’t think God hears me or even sees me. I mean look at me, my life is a mess!’ Why would God even care about me?
If you read the bible, you will see that most of the people we read about today were actually bigger messes!

Your Weakness Does Not Cancel God’s Love

Do you know that Abraham, the father of faith, lied and yet God made him the father of nations? Elijah, one of the Bible’s greatest prophets, was suicidal. Moses murdered someone. Gideon was consistently fearful. Samson broke his covenant with God. Rahab was a prostitute.

The Samaritan woman was not only a divorcee, she was still sleeping around. Noah was a drunk and Jacob was both a liar and a trickster. Jonah rebelled against God’s call and Martha was a worrier! Zacchaeus stole from people and Paul killed people, Christians for that matter!

Don’t get me started on the disciples, they were all different shades of dysfunction. We all struggle and fail but we are all just humans, albeit created in God’s image. God is God in spite of our weaknesses and we must understand that our weaknesses do not negate God’s love, His grace or His favor.  Hold on to Him, there will be victory here!

In His Love, We are Made Strong

As Tauren Wells beautifully puts it, ‘You are not unique to feelings of deficiency and the reality of sin’. These things are real but God is more real! I need you to understand that nothing can separate you from His love. No matter how low you may feel or how far you have gone, Jesus can forgive you, restore you, and even use you for His glory.  Your sin cannot change God and it certainly cannot wipe out His love for you!

Realize God is in control, not you! Pursue God and a Godly life. He makes all things work together for your good. Actually, He is making all things work out for your good and remember Romans 8:28 and Romans 8:38?  I will give it to you in three of my favorite bible versions:

The Passion Translation
28So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose. 38So now I live with the confidence that there is nothing in the universe with the power to separate us from God’s love. I am convinced that his love will triumph over death, life’s troubles, fallen angels, or dark rulers in the heavens. There is nothing in our present or future circumstances that can weaken his love.

New Living Translation
28And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. 38And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Amplified Version
28And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose. 38For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers.

I am leaving you with two songs from Hillsong; they are Grace to Grace and In Control. These lyrics are powerful!
